Lou Razon was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. She studied Bachelor of Arts in Interior design in a prestigious school, the Assumption College. She then traveled to Taiwan, Hongkong, China and London to gain knowledge and study the different styles and approach in fashion designing. She mastered Fashion Design at the Art Institute in Los Angeles and was the best designer graduate of the year because of her hard work and love of the craft
In 1997, Lou started a couture shop and a Barong Tagalog store in West Covina , Ca, She popularized the use of Barong Tagalog and genuine Filipino materials such as jusi and pina in weddings in the US basically Los Angeles. In 2001, her atelier and design studio in Glendale California was established to showcase her original creations.
Because of her innate gift Lou was able to impress people from different sorts. Celebrities with big names, from beauty queens such as Miss Universe Brooke Lee, former Miss New York first runner-up and KTLA news anchor Cher Calvin, etc. to rock and roll legend, Beatle Paul McCartney who became an avid fan at the Vanity Fair Party of the Academy Awards.
Truly her designs exude class with simplicity. Every piece is treated like an obra. Because of her undeniable talent she was awarded “Newsmaker of the Year” by Diaryo Pilipino and a certificate of recognition from the City Council Office of Eric Garcetti in the City of Los Angeles. Few years later, Lou became the Creative Director and Executive Producer of Miss Philippines USA which earned reputation under her supervision.
Lou Razon is based in Glendale, California and her mission as a designer is to make each woman look more elegant and sophisticated by making unique and elegant clothing for any special occasion. Her passion, dedication and hard work make her thrive in the fashion couture industry.
Inspired by her Philippine culture, Lou Razon’s designs revolve around the use of embroidery, lace, silk organza and silk chiffon. Her designs are very feminine, they are very relative of her personality and of her culture. She picks vibrant colors and jewel tones for her collection which clearly denotes her positive outlook in life. Neutral colors like black, grey and beige are also her personal choices. Draping is usually applied in most of her designs and she considers this as a very challenging craft. Lou designs her own patterns that makes her unique in her own special way.
Lou Razon debuted her first show and her original creations in Monet Lu’s fashion and awards night called Reflections the year 2000. She then received recognition as Most Promising Designer awarded by the Consul General of the Philippines Edwin Bael. In 2001, she started producing her own fashion shows such as Seasons of Lou Razon at the Monterey Hills and Faces of Lifestyles at the prestigious The Biltmore Hotel with Dina Bonnevie and ABC 7 News Anchor and Reporter Denise Dador. She then earned more awards for her talent given by SIPA Search to Involve Pilipino Americans, Virgo Awards and Celebrity Chronicle. Lou was the very first Filipino designer that walked the red carpet at the Oscars, greeted with rave reviews in 2002, and heralded her arrival as a new and important Filipino designer.
Lou Razon grew up watching a great Filipino Designer Inno Soto. Her collections have always been inspired by sensuousness strong femininity of 2 Lebanese great designers Zuhair Murad and Elie Saab. Lou loves the unexpected. She injects a touch of eccentricity into each collection, using contrasting fabrics to reveal and emphasize the female silhouette. Her collection exudes liberty; the freedom fully to express oneself through modern, sophisticated and truly exceptional clothing.
Lou had a huge dream when she was a little girl, and now she is living her dream, as she shares to the younger generation -“Believe in yourself and always follow your dreams and your passion”.
MISS PHILIPPINES USA
Miss Philippines USA was created in 2011 by Lou Razon, the woman behind the Lou Razon Designs. Because of her experience and expertise in throwing simple to grand fashion show, Lou was able to manage, guide and mentor 30 candidates from all over the United States. Prestigious pageants such as this have certain criteria for qualification. In order to join Miss Philippines USA a candidate should be a resident of the United States and must be of Filipino descent. Second, she should be at least 5’2″ft. tall in height in order to get through the screening process. Third, a candidate should be between the ages of 18-25 years old. Fourth, a candidate must be of good moral character. It is important for a delegate to meet all these 4 criteria in order to pass the first screening process. The winner should possess the quality of a woman with grace and she should be able to live the title of Miss Philippines and be the Ambassador of Goodwill and exemplify the true meaning of a beautiful Filipina woman.
Miss Philippines USA’s mission is to develop the finest ambassador of goodwill and role model not only for the Filipino American community but for the entire youth. Miss Philippine USA was created to help promote fashion, art and culture of the Filipino. It is a way of retaining the ethnic values culture of the Filipino in the United States. The pageant helps uplift the confidence of the delegates. Miss Philippines USA is not a popularity competition but is a fundraising program created to help the people in the Philippines who are in poverty. ABS-CBN Foundation International supports Miss Philippines USA in their search for the new ambassador of goodwill each year.
There are 3 crowns given to the three top winners. First of course is the title holder which is Miss Philippines USA of the year, second is the Miss Philippines USA Tourism and third is the Miss Philippines USA Ambassador. One of the goals of Miss Philippines USA is to send a winner to pageants in the Philippines leading to international pageants like Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss International.
